June is the perfect month for bike riders to visit Melrose.
Tucked over the hill from Port Augusta and Port Pirie is the little town of Melrose that has a growing reputation for mountain biking.
From June 8 until June 10, Melrose will host its 10th Annual Fat Tyre Festival supported by Coopers and South Australian Tourism Commission.
The 2012 festival will be running skills clinics for beginners to advanced, mechanical and bike fit sessions, Guided epic rides and smaller local rides.
There will also be time trials on the mini D and Pump track so riders can “challenge themselves”.
There will be numerous live bands playing throughout the day and at night at North Star Hotel and Mt Remarkable Hotel, jumping castles and much more for the kids! On Saturday local markets will be selling their wears alongside some of the latest offerings from the bicycle industry.
A special guest is all the way from Germany – Jasper Jauch, who was recently awarded German mountainbiker of year 2011, will run skills clinics for the kids and hosting rides giving you the opportunity to ride with Europe’s best!
Over 200 riders and their families from all over Australia and the world will be expected to descend on Melrose to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the unique hospitality Melrose has to offer.
This festival is all about meeting and riding with like minded people in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.
Often at a competitive race event there is a fair bit of tension in the air however at this festival it’s more about the people you meet than the people you beat.
